Sirach 15:19
Praise the Lord!
Prayerful greetings to all my loving parish family members and well-wishers.
We are all proud of our beautiful church. We have dedicated it to God the Father. It is here we meet Him, to thank Him for the blessings. We ease our pains, failures and disappointments before Him. Let’s tell Him, “Loving Father, we trust in You.”
Our parish church is the place where the Father eagerly waits to listen to us.
Establishing the Church was the most important thing Jesus came to do. What good would it have been if he had stopped at redeeming us from sin? We would still have needed his ongoing grace to grow closer to him and help change the world. And that’s exactly what the Church is for. As we are taught by his Word and nourished by his Body and Blood, we become the holy people, members of the Church, he longs for us to be.
“The Kingdom of Heaven” is the Reign of God inaugurated by Jesus during his earthly ministry, the gathering of disciples who respond to the reign of God on earth, which Jesus inaugurates through his preaching and healing. This is what Jesus teaches us to pray for when we say “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven!” Entering that kingdom on earth does eventually lead to entering the divine realm we call Heaven. Our one step is in Heaven, in our Father’s Home.
Taking this language seriously helps us to understand and accept the institutional reality of the Church as essential to Christian faith as believing in the humanity of Jesus. “I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” Mt 16:19. This means working out our collective salvation in the context of divinely established earthly authority. That also means that the authority of God works through human frailty. The human and material setup of our church and community may remain frail; let’s endorse our allegiance to the One who is perfect, who is now, always and forever.
